About

Benny van der Plank received a bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning at the Breda University of Applied Sciences in 2004. He has been working on major urban renewal projects in Amsterdam for more than ten years. At the same time, he studied at the Photo Academy in Amsterdam.

His projects focus on social and sustainability issues in urban environments. Most deal with the expansion of densely populated areas where space is getting scarce and house prices are rising. He frequently travels to Hong Kong to work on projects, including 'Choi Hung Estate', 'Dragon Gates', 'Densely Populated Cemeteries' and his latest project 'Aftermath Hong Kong Protests'.

In 'Aftermath Hong Kong Protests' he photographed the consequences of the protests in Hong Kong at the end of 2019. By then, clashes between police and protesters had become more frequent and increasingly violent. The clashes have left an open wound on daily life in Hong Kong.

He has a passion for music and photographs (inter)national bands and musicians. His music photography can be found on music platforms such as The Daily Indie and 3voor12 Noord-Holland.
